Rules for completing a doctoral dissertation – requirements

A  dissertation is a qualifying paper written by a PhD applicant. Structure of the dissertation unlike a doctorate by dissertation, a  dissertation must contain a discovery with the possibility of practical application. The scope of the problems dealt with in the thesis requires a clear structure and a correct text format.

The dissertation consists of the following parts:

According to the requirements of the certification commission, the length of a dissertation is 180 to 300 pages, depending on the subject of the services does not include the application.

The font used is Times New Roman, and the line spacing is 1.5; as a result, 30 lines of text are placed on an A4 page. The writing style is impersonal.

Illustrative material (pictures, graphs, diagrams, tables, formulas, diagrams) is created in the text according to the general specifications.

In-text citations and links are created according to the general rules.

Pages are consecutively numbered; pages are numbered with Arabic numerals. The page number is placed in the middle of the top margin.

Only one person can write a thesis; the work of others is indicated in links or as a reference in the main text.

The plagiarism test is not carried out by the Higher Certification Commission, the scientific institution represented by the author is responsible for it. In addition to the automatic verification, there is manual verification: the work is studied by experts and analyzed for the use of other people’s scientific results. The requirement for the uniqueness of the dissertations is 90% or more.

Abstract

The abstract prepared by the author of the dissertation contains the conclusions and first ideas of the entire text, indicates the personal contribution of the applicant, emphasizes the novelty of the proposed solutions, and describes possible practical applications.

The abstract of the dissertation always corresponds to its structure and must be published in an edition of up to 100 copies. Its volume does not exceed 2 printed A4 sheets.

The abstract consists of several parts:

  • Cover: title, the full name of the author, subject area, supervisor information, place and date of the defence;
  • Back cover: University, document number, the signature of the secretary of the thesis council, date the thesis was sent to the Superior Commission for Accreditation;
  • Introduction: Justification of the relevance of the topic, the main objectives and research objects;
  • Main part: thesis description of the pillars of the work;
  • Conclusion: conclusions, recommendations for practice.

Cover

The cover page contains the following information:

  • Organization and department of the applicant;
  • type of execution (manuscript);
  • job title;
  • name of the author and his title;
  • Full name of supervisor, position and title;
  • thesis status;
  • nomenclature and speciality code;
  • Place and time of work safety.
  • The cover is not numbered.

Table of Contents

The table of contents highlights all items in the job in their available order and indicates from which page each section begins. The table of contents is numbered from number 2.

References and bibliographic data

This section follows the index of terms. It should only contain the sources mentioned in work.

The list is compiled chronologically (in the order in which it is named), systematically, or alphabetically. If necessary, the bibliography is provided in a foreign language.

The number in the footnote of the source must match the number of the source in the bibliography.

Each source is documented in the following order:

  • All source authors.
  • Name.
  • For journals, the issue number and date are provided.
  • Year and place of publication.
  • The length of the literary source (number of pages).
  • In a continuous edition, the series and statements of responsibility are given.

Applications

All other materials in large format (A4 and more) in the form of tables, pictures, cards, documents (questionnaires, questionnaires, methods), drawings and calculations are included in the application. All of them are for reference and confirm the author’s thinking.

Each application is submitted on a separate sheet, even if it does not fill the entire page. The application must have a number and a title, for example, “Appendix A”, “Appendix B”, and so on.

Conclusions

A dissertation is structured and written according to the design guidelines. Otherwise, she will not be admitted to the defense.

Writing a thesis is a time-consuming job over several years. Not all true science geeks are ready to take this step. Many are defending their Ph.D. to get their next job. A doctorate confers not only status but also a salary increase if the applicant works in a public institution.
